Mia & Dan's bucks & hens weekend

The October long weekend was SO much fun!

Mia and Dan decided instead of the traditional bucks night and hens night, that they'd do a weekend extravaganza. So they rented two houses right on the beach down at Jervis Bay, a beautiful part of the state and about 3 hours drive from Sydney. There was the girls house and the boys house - sort of a fraternity / sorority type deal with about 15 people in each house and a weekend full of cool activities.

Sarah and I picked up Prash from his office about 4pm Friday and drive down together, arriving just in time to hang out for welcome drinks - champagne and hibiscus flowers - and a table chock full of gourmet cheeses and olives and anitpasto. How perfect is that after a longish drive?

After a couple of hours of mingling we went off to our respective houses and the boys kicked on with some late night poker.

Next morning there was a big fry up brekky and we all piled into a couple of cars with surfboards strapped to the rooves to head out of the bay and to one of the surf beaches 20 mins away at Sussex Inlet. Unfortunately the ocean was just as flat as the bay so surfing wasn't on the cards, but suddenly about 20 feet off the beach we saw a pod of dolphins surfacing. I have never seen dolphins so close to shore before! Dan and Stu had masks and snorkels so they dived in and swam out, I ran back to the car to pick up my goggles and swam furiously out, but arrived seconds too late. The boys had an incredible experience though, the dolphins came to them and swam all around them, at one point only an arms length away!

We then made the best of it by some good old fashioned beach tennis and classic catches into the surf!

Back to the ranch we fired up a big BBQ and salad and all had lunch together in the sun before the next phase - the AFL grand final.

Here's the front of the boys' mansion

The beach on Jervis Bay, about 10 steps from our front door.

We watched the fairly one-sided game in the old Husky Pub with one of the most picturesque beer gardens I've ever seen.

Then we all came back to the house and got on our finest country garments for the evening's entertainment - the bush dance!

Mia and Dan had hired out a hall, and a fantastic band which taught us all a bunch of partner-swapping square dances which ended up being a ludicrous amount of fun. We had the hall all to ourselves, with just a table of snacks and a couple of esky's of booze and the whole night to play with. It was a complete blast.
