Annapurna trek III

The next morning up we started huffing and puffing up the hill just as the sun was coming up. It was hard going as it was absolutely freezing and the air is so thin up there that breathing is a struggle. At least we were acclimatised after our hike up to the lake so we did a whole lot better than a lot of people on the trail. We just plugged on wand walked slowly but continuously to the top. It really was the oddest feeling to feel so unfit that walking up a fairly gradual slope is an effort. There were people all over the place stumbling around, sitting down heaving for breath, puking etc. A few people couldn't even walk from altitude sickness and had to be thrown on horses and taken over the pass and down the other side. The next day three people were evacuated from the trail by helicopter, and we heard there were another three or four airlifts the day after.

We just slogged on and at 9.30am we were on top of the world - standing on the highest point of the trail at 5,418m above sea level and checking out the views. We really got a perfect day with strong sunlight and clear blue skies

Very happy to have made it
