Stalled

We've spent the last five days in Kunming - the capital of Yunnan province in South Western China. Actually there's bugger-all to do here and we've made sure to do that to the hilt. We had to pause here to get visas to Vietnam, the embassy was closed Monday and Tuesday for the Labour Day public holiday and applying Wednesday meant they're not ready till Friday arvo. But I guess it was a good thing in the end since Sarah was quite ill for a couple of days and bed-bound. I had to look after her of course and spend all day by her side in case she woke up and required any assistance whatsover. This pretty much involved me spending two days lying in bed reading books...

But the weather is sensational and the hostel has a brilliant outdoor roof area with fusball, table tennis and a pool table as well as couches overlooking the main square of town where we've spent many a lovely evening watching the sun go down over the crowds of Chinese tourists milling aimlessly about and the small beggar children smashing bottles and playfully trying to slash each other's faces with the glass shards.

There's also the smallest dog in the world wearing a tiny jacket

Actually we finally fired up today and hiked a trail up a mountain in the western hills just outside town which I thought was gorgeous and really fun, although Sarah nearly killed me for dragging her up. And the stone staircase tour continues apace.
