At the crack of dawn the next morning we were awoken by ear-shatteringly loud and piercingly insistant electronic chimes playing a delightful medley of "Happy Birthday to you", "London Bridge is falling down", "Three blind mice" and "Row, row, row your boat". My pavlovian reaction was to leap out of bed and run barefoot down the street demanding a choc nut sundae, but thankfully after a second or two my rational mind kicked in and counteracted years of conditioning with the nagging thought that THERE IS NO MR WHIPPY VAN IN CHINA! Yes, that is in fact the noise of the garbage truck alerting people to bring out their trash. So I swallowed down my drool, tried to get those tunes out of my head and fall back into slumber.
Tragically those insidious melodies had infected all within earshot and no sooner had the sonorous strains of the garbage truck faded into the distance, than some bloke in the courtyard outside our door started belting out his own rendition of "Row, row, row your boat". In Chinese.
Anyway check out a couple of shots of Dali
