Phnom Penh

We heard a lot of dirt dished up on Phnom Penh before we got there, but the place rocked! The Khmer Rouge sites were extremely disturbing, but fascinating. The people were lovely, the food incredible. We had cocktails on the roof of the beautiful Foreign Correspondent's Club overlooking the river, then retired to dinner at a restaurant called Friends (no relation to Joey or Chandler) which takes in and trains streets kids to cook and serve and also ploughs all its profits into a whole bunch of worthy causes in the city. Plus the food was sensational - Asian tapas, yummy.

The royal palace was gorgeous

Even more gorgeous were the pictures of the queen up all over town. She's totally got that Queen Elizabeth II copycat thing going on. Grrrrr!

And we stayed in a hostel floating on the lake with a huge deck out back where you could hang out, play pool and watch the sunset.

Or, if you're a group of 10 teenaged english boys, come home drunk at 3am, whack on blaring music and play endless games of pool while yelling at each other in loud obnoxious voices right outside our room.

I had a lot of sympathy for the poor old Cambodian guys that work there and actually have to sleep on the deck. Yep, they were stuck serving beers until the boys went to bed at 6am, then they had to start serving brekky as the other guests got up. We cried on each others shoulders.

Other things we did... all you can eat curry for 2 bucks! I shot an AK-47 (scary). Took a random photo of a mosque at sunset. I think maybe I take too many sunset shots, but I will be seeking therapy for that problem when I get home. Until then you just have to suffer through it.
