On the run. And the ride... And the swim...

I must have been mad. Signing up for an Olympic Distance Triathlon the day before I leave the country. It's not like I don't have enough bloody organisation to do in the next week or so, I've also got to try to fit in enough training so I can make it to the end of this thing. It's pretty intense - a 1.5km swim, 40 km bike ride and then 10km run - so it's been on my mind a lot.

This whole fitness kick I've been on for the last couple of years has been pretty full on so it's good to have this as a natural culmination of it all. When I was living in Canada I remember one morning having to sprint half a block to catch my bus to work and not being able to talk to the driver to buy a ticket through all the huffing and the puffing for a good five minutes! Now two years later I'm bloody obsessed. Last Monday I ran for an hour, worked out at the gym for 1 1/2 hours, swam laps for an hour, rode my bike for 1 1/2 hours and then stretched for half an hour. Five and a half bloody hours and I fit in a full day of work somewhere in there too.

It's like one of those ads in the back of magazines, if only I had the before and after shots. My advice to you kiddies - get yourself into a long distance relationship. All that frustration makes exercise fun!
